The Lowdown Funny Side of Aging (A Note from 2020 Found in 2025!)

Yesterday, while cleaning out some old files from my closet, I found a note I wrote back in 2020  and reading it again made me smile. It’s wild to think how fast time flies and how much has changed since then. But what’s even funnier? Most of what I wrote still rings true in 2025.

Back in 2020  I was having a conversation with my bestie about the funny side of aging  and all the new things I’ve learned about myself being forty-something. It’s weird how time seems to have slowed down, yet my kids are passing me up in height!

So, if you’re wondering what’s funny about aging, give me two minutes to share my two cents.

Disclaimer: this is my story, centered around my everyday real life. What I find funny about aging might not even make you smile. And that’s the beauty of it : we’re all different, and everyone has their own take on aging. So, let’s jump right into today’s little ramble about nothing, shall we?

Lately, I’ve been trying to find something funny about living in this space we call life. I really do believe laughing keeps the wrinkles at bay or at least keeps my frown turned upside down.

I don’t know about you, but the year 2020 had me thinking a lot about life. Most of my thoughts were about making changes to fit my new normal. Who knew wearing a mask in the city would become a thing?

When I was younger, I learned how to bounce back from life’s lemons. Now that I’m older, I’m making sweet lemonade, with honey! Ha! It’s funny , I think as I’ve gotten older, not much worries me anymore. It’s not cool, and it adds no value to my life. I am learning to oil my bones and keep going. It’s not always easy but in the scheme of things that’s life.

And you know what else is funny? I’m eating more now than I ever have! Last week I walked five miles with ease.

My plan was to do it every day, but I quickly realized I was a wee bit over my head. So, I celebrated the fact that I walked that one day. I’ve decided there will be no pressure to do anything for the rest of my life.

It’s funny how life:  mine and others’ , has taken on a new shape, adjusting to new things. I just want to be happy for no reason at all. You know that feeling when things might not be okay, but you’re still okay? Yeah, that was me in 2020.

Yep, that’s why I’m setting my goals and thoughts these days. It took me a while, but I had to move everything that was draining my energy. That’s what I call the lowdown funny side of aging.

I’m finally finding myself after almost four decades on this earth. It’s that sweet spot so many people want to reach but never quite tap into.

Don’t get me wrong  I’m aware of what’s happening in the world and in my own life. But I’ve decided to fix what I can and move aside what I can’t. And yes, it really is that simple.

Recently, my husband and I decided to downsize and pay cash for everything. That was before the virus hit in 2020, and let me tell y’all  it was the best decision we ever made. We made a list of what we’d keep doing and what we’d let go of. With three daughters in college and one in elementary school, it’s time to start thinking about what life will look like in ten years when it’s just us. And we decided it’ll be nice to sit back and enjoy our small bits with pure happiness.

And that, my friends, is the real tea in life. No more overthinking things that add no value. At this point, I’m sitting back, laughing at life  because now I know I have the power to write the laughs in my life. #realtalk

The year 2020 definitely taught me a few lessons. And although I still hate cooking, I won’t complain. I’ll celebrate small wins like walking that one day this week!

My grandmother used to say, “Wisdom comes with age,” and I finally agree after all these years. Funny how I’m now repeating what she once told me.

And there you have it: the lowdown funny side of aging.
To simplify today’s post: I’ve realized I’m never too old to learn something new or switch things up. Ha! That’s a lesson all by itself.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

How’s your day going?

Until next time, stay on the funny side of aging!
