Finding Joy After 50: My 2-Hour Joy Finder

Woman on train thinking about her joy

Finding Joy Is My Act Of Purpose. As, A Black Woman, It's How I Thrive, Heal, And Live Fully!

This May Sound Ugly But This Is Real Talk Real Life: If Someone Has Your Joy: Take It Back. Better Yet If You’Ve Given Your Joy Away Go Take It Back.

As I age, making time for relaxation becomes more crucial than ever. I am starting to realize that being busy can affect my physical and mental health.

But now that I am over 50-something and juggling work, family, and other obligations, I find it hard to find the time to relax and do do mundane things.

I will refrain from dwelling on things like stress and not relaxing because I am determined to find time for myself, even if it's for only two hours of my day. With 2025 fast approaching, I am making it my goal and mission to become more intentional and goal-setting.

So, today, I am intentionally putting myself first. And I know that small statement sounds so dramatic, but I do not care. (Insert Grinch smile right here.)

Okay, here's the reality that nobody asked for. You can’t become that girl if you never put yourself in alignment to receive the greater things you desire.

No matter how harsh this may sound ( your dreams matter, just like the person or persons you are cheering forward. #thinkaboutit

My life is so busy that it can be chaotic for no reason, and I mean no reason. You see, no matter how I try to map my life out to be ever so perfect by trying to be Mrs. Do It All.

It never works because I put more into other things and less time into the things that will bring me joy and fulfillment at my mid-grade age in life.

Looking back over my life, I see more years of hard work, grinding, and less time enjoying.

WOW! That sounds like a life of struggling and doing nothing with myself. But, to clarify, that is not true; I just want to do more than be a mom, wife, worker, and people pleaser. #sorrynotsorry

Honey, there is so much more to living a joyful, mundane life other than hustling and bustling through every day of the week or helping others achieve their goals in whatever that may be.

I did not say not to help others but I did say to make time and room for your own vision, dreams, and desires of becoming whatever that means to you.

At this stage, I wonder what 50-something year-olds do other than catering to others who may or may not appreciate you.

I am realizing I am in a different stage of my life, and it is scary, lonely, and it's so new to me. But I am jumping in with both feet firmly down. I am trying to learn how to jump without having fear. I plan to start by journaling some ideas in my funky diary that I want to do in my fifties.

How hard can it be? Lol, I shouldn't ask that question.

Nonetheless, this is my life, and I am in a phase of finally learning more about this new journey of being 50-something.

Although I have a supportive, loving husband and adult kids who help take my pictures and edit videos for me, I am in a place of life where I am finally becoming that woman I have been waiting to see grow up.

OMG, that little phrase sounds so weird, but I can and will do it because the wait is over!

I will share a few ideas at the bottom of this post.

If you have made it this far in the blog, thank you.

As for me, I grabbed a coffee from my favorite local cafe this morning and went for a walk. Honestly, that sounds so boring, but this morning's coffee and walk turned out to be the best thing for me. I was able to clear my mind and refocus on the things that bring me peace and joy.
